"I like your face"

A few weeks back my daughter in all her girlie splendor was dressed very nice for church in a new dress, hat, sweater, even had her hair done etc.  She looked lovely. (not at all bias here ;-)

For some reason I wasn't at church that day, Jason had taken them.  Callie was standing in the foyer with Jason when she was approached by a lovely older woman in our congregation.  The lady bent down and said "I like your dress" and Callie looking up said "I like your face" :-) As only a little one can she complimented her is the best of ways, with an honest answer.  The women in question has some of the kindest eyes I've ever seen, with a ready smile at all times.  She reflects the love of Jesus everywhere she goes.

It really struck me this story of "I like your face".  There are things in our lives that just stick with us and that story was one of those things and I wasn't sure why until this weekend.

This weekend I was paid one of the most moving complements of my life and it ties perfectly into Callies experience.

We we're sitting at the kitchen table after dinner with my in-laws just visiting and enjoying one another company when my Father-in-law looked at me intently trying to find the words.  You see he is in the late stages of brain cancer and he struggles to find the words he is looking for. But he looked over and said "I like your face." at first I thought he was trying to get across that my face was looking thinner as I've been losing weight the last few month but I was wrong.  He said "no not that" so we started the guessing game of what was Grandpa trying to say.  My mother-in-law figured it out. "Is it her countenance?" Yes that was it!  He liked my countenance.  I was deeply touched.  Then Judy shared a quote that made it even more meaningful.

"The worth of a real man will be shown in the countenance of his wife's face."

The Lord has been doing amazing work in my life.  Teaching me so much
Do we look into Jesus face and let Him know that we "like His face?" is His countenance reflected in us?  I hope so.

This is a blog that I didn't publish as it was deeply personal as my Father-in-law fought cancer. But with all that I've been learning lately I thought I was ready to share it, for it is worthy of sharing.
Blessings,
Amber
